Understanding Lawn Replacement and Sodding
What is Lawn Replacement?
Lawn replacement is just like it sounds. It involves removing an existing lawn and replacing it with new grass. The process is essential when the existing grass is beyond repair due to disease, pest infestation, or severe damage.
What is Sodding?
Sodding, a popular method of lawn replacement, involves removing the old grass and laying pre-grown grass that is harvested with a thin layer of soil and roots. This instant-lawn solution provides immediate aesthetic benefits and is ideal for areas prone to erosion or for those who want quick results.

Taking Care of your Newly Sodded Lawn
General
There are several steps that you must take after Medeiros and Sons replaces your lawn:
You must water frequently for at least the next month, every day, for forty-five minutes to an hour each time (preferably in the early morning)
Don't cut your lawn for the next three weeks, and when you do, cut it on the highest setting.
After those periods, you may begin watering less frequently, three to four times a week, and you can begin cutting at a normal height.
These are general guidelines for taking care of a newly sodded lawn, be sure to take the advice we give to you in person.
Fertilizing
We also recommend you purchase our lawn fertilizing service with us to help keep your lawn healthy. We typically fertilize lawns at regular intervals during the season, and fertilizing has lots of benefits.
Weeds
Lawns that are newly sodded are more vulnerable to weed growth during the first several weeks if you don't water them. It is important that you water your grass according to our recommendations when you first get your lawn replaced so that their roots can
grow. Lawns that are watered frequently tend to grow less weeds and are healthier. You may also consider having us apply Corn Gluten to your lawn, to help prevent weed germination.
