Are you ready for the Spring Season?
It's been an interesting winter thus far, and we've been keeping busy ensuring that we have everything ready for the upcoming 2024 lawn care season. Spring is arriving and your lawn needs to be prepared.
Introduction
After a long winter season - eager to get started with new outdoor activities and bring fresh air into our homes, it's easy to forget that our lawns have spent the same amount of time as we have dormant and enveloped by snow. Although your personal experience may vary (and hopefully differed in a positive way), your lawn needs an equal amount of preparation and attention in order to grow and thrive.
Spring Cleaning
As you begin your own spring cleaning, Medeiros and Sons can help prepare your lawn for the upcoming season. There are often several different tasks involved with spring cleaning that can be broken down into a checklist, and Medeiros and Sons offers different services that can help clear the way for growth.
Dethatching
During the fall and winter months, your lawn can become packed with debris and dead grass. This is known as thatch. Thatch typically forms at the base of your grass during the regular season, and typically accumulates and decomposes throughout the year while your lawn is not dormant. Thatch can act as an organic mulch that keeps your lawn healthy, however, when there is too much accumulation of thatch, it can actually cause more harm than good. Because significant accumulation often happens before and after winter, it's important to remove thatch to ensure that water, fertilizer, and other nutrients reach your grass and soil to promote growth.
Using a dethatcher, Medeiros and Sons lawn care can remove excess thatch from your lawn. It is a relatively simple process that you can read more about here.
Aeration
Like Dethatching, aeration helps to promote lawn growth. Aeration involves creating small holes in your lawn using a specialized machine in order to create a path for water to reach your grass' root system. After a large snowfall, and with significant thatch on your lawn, your grass can become compacted. Aeration can alleviate that also. Early spring is often the best time to get your lawn aerated, just before peak growth. You can read more about it here.
